Sustainable Manufacturing in Training Focus

Embedding Sustainability in the Manufacturing Process

The Sustainability and Life Cycle Modelling Training workshop, organised end of 2024 by ABCircular in cooperation with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Materialkunde, provided valuable insights into the role of sustainability in manufacturing. With a focus on Eco-design, Safe and Sustainable by Design, and Gender Dimensions, the workshop engaged participants in discussions on integrating sustainability principles into high-tech production processes.

The CLASCO project served as a case study to explore the challenges and opportunities of sustainable additive manufacturing. CLASCO focuses on the manufacturing of complex geometries for aerospace and biomedical applications, where post-processing plays a crucial role in ensuring material performance and application feasibility.

Under the leadership of Prof. Gesa Beck and her team at ABCircular, the workshop covered essential aspects of life cycle modelling and eco-friendly design choices. Participants gained insights into how sustainability can be implemented from the earliest stages of product development, ensuring that advanced manufacturing remains both innovative and responsible.

As sustainability becomes a defining factor in industrial production, discussions like these are shaping the future of manufacturing.
