CLASCO Consortium Insights: Monitoring Laser Polishing with AI and Infrared Technology

A closer look at the people and technologies shaping the CLASCO project.

In our CLASCO interview series, we now move to the process monitoring side of the project.

New Infrared Technologies SL, based in Spain, brings real-time thermal imaging and AI-powered monitoring to the CLASCO consortium. In this interview, Ignacio Lopez discusses their innovative role in high-speed process control during laser polishing. The team’s uncooled infrared camera sensor tracks the surface condition every millisecond, enabling precise process insights without high maintenance requirements.

This constant thermal feedback is essential for quality assurance and operational efficiency. By integrating Artificial Intelligence into the monitoring system, deviations in the polishing process can be detected and addressed immediately. The combination of speed, accuracy, and reliability is designed to support continuous improvement in the surface finishing of metal components.

New Infrared Technologies SL contributes significantly to CLASCO’s mission to develop smarter and more adaptive manufacturing solutions. Their work ensures that surface treatments are not only effective but also consistently monitored and optimised throughout production.

The interview with Ignacio Lopez is part of a series highlighting the diverse strengths of the CLASCO consortium.
