On Monday, 15 September 2025, Dr. Sarah Fischer, from the Fraunhofer Institute for Non-Destructive Testing IZFP in Saarbrücken, will open the series of plenary lectures. The award-winning scientist and head of the DGM Newcomer & Young Talent Committee, who won the FEMS Materials Science & Technology Prize, will speak on “Engineering characterization methods for metamaterials with tailored sound and vibration properties.”
The following day, Prof. Dr. Franz Faupel from Christian Albrecht University in Kiel, a longstanding DGM member, will present a plenary lecture titled “Sustainability Crisis and Our Responsibility as a Scientific Community.” Titled “Sustainability crisis and our responsibility as a scientific community,” his lecture will highlight the role of materials science in addressing global challenges.
Additionally, DGM members will organize thematic workshops. Of particular note is the session "Materials assisted by digital science: Revolution, Benefits, and Risks for Industry" on Tuesday, 16 September 2025. The organizers include Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini, our committed member from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, as well as Dr. Gerhard Hackl from ASMET (Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials) and Dr. Brett Suddell.
For many years, the DGM has been part of the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS), a group of leading European professional societies in materials science and engineering. DGM members' active participation in the EUROMAT 2025 program highlights the significant contributions of the German materials science community to the European context.
