Future-oriented materials and bioinspired technologies are the focus of the second status conference of the BMFTR funding initiative “Biologization of Technology: Bioinspired Materials Research,” which will take place on 22 and 23 October 2025, at the ECOMAT research and technology center in Bremen.

For the first time, the two-day program is also open to external interested parties. In addition to compact short presentations from ongoing joint projects, participants can expect discussion rounds based on the fishbowl format, which address scientific, economic, and social issues alike. Two poster sessions and a get-together on the evening of the first day of the conference will provide opportunities for informal exchange and interdisciplinary networking. A special highlight will be a guided tour of Airbus in Bremen.

On the second day of the conference, there will be a choice of two parallel program items, each tailored to different target groups:

• PhD seminar: “Career options between science, industry, and start-ups”
  The seminar is aimed at PhD candidates, postdocs and young scientists and offers practical insights into various career paths. Input from research, business, and start-ups, as well as open exchange with experienced players, provide orientation in the research and innovation system.
• Business forum: “From invention to innovation – the perspective of the demand side”
  The forum is aimed at representatives from industry, knowledge and technology transfer hubs, funding institutions, and senior scientists. The focus is on strategies for commercializing biological technologies, success factors for cooperation, and transfer structures that support the path to market.

Following the status conference, the Bremen Bionics Congress will take place from 24 – 25 October 2025.
