As decided by a large majority of the members present, the duo with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martina Zimmermann (TU Dresden and Fraunhofer-IWS, photo left) and Prof. Dr. Gerhard Schneider (Hochschule Aalen, photo right) will form the presidential leadership of the DGM from January 1, 2021. Thus, the tandem replaces the presidents still in office, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Mücklich (Saarland University) and Dr.-Ing. Oliver Sven Schauerte (Volkswagen AG), at the end of the year. The handover of responsibilities within the Presiding Board will undoubtedly be smooth, as Prof. Dr.-Ing. Zimmermann and Prof. Dr. Schneider, in their capacity as Vice Presidents, have been working hand in hand with Prof. Dr. Mücklich and Dr.-Ing. Schauerte.
Prof. Dr. Birgit Skrotzki and Prof. Dr. Martin Heilmaier were elected as Vice Presidents, and thus as their successors.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martina Zimmermann:
“From the very beginning, I was fascinated and inspired by the various possibilities of professional exchange within the DGM and the occasionally controversial but always constructive way of dealing with each other. It is a great pleasure and honor for me to lead and shape this society for two years together with Gerhard Schneider, Stefan Klein, and the whole DGM Team. I very much hope that we will be able to expand our network beyond our own society's borders, to defy the current adverse circumstances, and to look at it as a chance to explore new grounds".
Prof. Dr. Gerhard Schneider:
"The DGM is our society, which represents the interests of the Material Scientists and Engineers and promotes our field of expertise. In our world, which is more and more occupied by digitization, we have to make it clear on all levels of how highly relevant materials are. In the future, we will continue to urgently need material innovations in order to be able to meet the great challenges of mankind. I am looking forward to making my contribution to this in the DGM Presidium".
