Pulling, stretching, bending - Materials are put to the test in the DGM advanced training course

During the two-day training course, participants learn the fundamentals and methods for characterizing mechanical properties of construction materials.

On 14 and 15 September 2022, the DGM advanced training course on "Introduction to Mechanical Materials Testing" took place at the Chair of Materials Testing Technology (WPT) at the Technical University of Dortmund. Over two days, under the guidance of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Walther and five other experienced scientists and technicians, the participants dealt with the following questions of classical materials testing: How can the strength properties of a material be demonstrated? How do hard and soft materials differ? How can the toughness of a material be tested?

Theory and practice complemented each other in lectures and practical tests on topics such as tensile testing, notched bar impact testing, macro and micro hardness testing and fatigue testing. Through the practical application of what they had learned in the laboratory, the participants were able to directly consolidate their knowledge and clarify their own questions in their professional context through personal exchange with the experts on site.

The DGM would like to thank all those involved in the organization and implementation of the training event.
