Microstructure mechanics working group under new leadership

On May 11, 2022, the meeting of the Microstructural Mechanics Working Group took place as planned as a hybrid event, with 11 participants attending in presence at the Ruhr University Bochum and between 29-32 participants connected online.

The theme of the working group meeting was "Additive Manufacturing: Modeling of Process, Microstructure and Properties" and included scientific contributions on the topics of process simulation for additive manufacturing, microstructure-property relationships and machine learning and artificial intelligence for property prediction for additively manufactured materials. All papers were presented in English to reflect the increasing internationalization of the field.

In the closing discussion, Professor Hartmaier paid tribute to the great and continuous commitment of Professor Siegfried Schmauder, who has led the Microstructural Mechanics Working Group very successfully over many years.

As new leadership, Professor Alexander Hartmaier was elected for the position of spokesperson and Professor Sandra Klinge as deputy spokesperson.

The German Society for Materials Science thanks Professor Siegfried Schmauder as well as Mr. Dennis Rapp for their many years of commitment.
