Dipl.-Ing. Florian Mischo, Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials GmbH, submitted the following science news to DGM on 15 March 2023:

Chara-TPC - Establishment of a characterization center in RLP for thermoplastic composites.

Composite materials with thermoplastic matrix, so-called thermoplastic composites (TPC), are increasingly used in key industries due to their lightweight potential. Continuous fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites (eTPC), which are particularly suitable for use in structurally load-bearing components due to their excellent mechanical properties, play a special role. Application obstacles are the frequent lack of fully comparable and efficiently determined material properties for complex loading cases. The aim of the Chara-TPC project at the Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials is to develop new efficient characterization methods for complex loading cases of eTPC to generate comparable material properties.
