#TMSAnnualMeeting: DGM Junior Researchers report

In mid-January, the DGM, together with the "Research in Germany" initiative funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), launched a call for participation to represent Germany as a research location at the Annual Meeting of the TMS - The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society - in March 2023.

Michéle Scholl & Martin Müller

The call was for two matriculated students or doctoral candidates from the material science area to provide cross-media support for the two-day conference in San Diego, California. The two young scientists, Michéle Scholl and Martin Müller, from our material science community, were able to secure flight tickets to California from among all applicants. The 152nd Annual Meeting of The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) was held in San Diego, California, from 19 to 23 March 2023. Together with the initiative "Research in Germany" our booth attracted many interested visitors. Participants had the opportunity to find out about the latest developments in materials science and technology in Germany and to exchange ideas with experts.

Particularly noteworthy was the "Meet the Scientist" event on Tuesday afternoon, where participants had the opportunity to meet scientists and experts directly at the booth and talk about their research projects. It was great to see how many visitors were interested in the work of the DGM and how much interest there is in collaborating with German researchers and experts. There was also a lot of interest in FEMS EUROMAT 2023, which will take place this year in Frankfurt from 03 to 07 September 2023. Some of the participants at the TMS Annual Meeting will also attend the European counterpart.

The symposia at the conference were extremely informative and provided participants with valuable insights into a wide variety of areas of materials science. Even though the weather was very rainy in Southern California, we are very happy to have been a part of this event and thank all the attendees and participants who visited our booth.
