Training Course in ‘Ceramic Composites’: Innovative High-Temperature Materials for Industrial Applications

Ceramic composites are increasingly revolutionising high-temperature lightweight construction and are gaining importance as a key technology for mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and energy technology. In the advanced training course ‘Ceramic Composites’, led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Schafföner at the University of Bayreuth, participants will learn how to use these materials in a targeted manner in their company – on site in Bayreuth or online – on 18 and 19 February 2025.

Ceramic composites have long since ceased to be just a research topic and have become an essential component of modern industrial applications. Their outstanding temperature and thermal shock resistance, as well as their high fracture toughness, make them ideal for use under extreme conditions. The upcoming DGM training course ‘Ceramic Composites’ is aimed at specialists in the fields of mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and power engineering who want to deepen their knowledge and explore innovative application possibilities for ceramic composites.

The training focuses on current developments in fibre and matrix technology, the basic manufacturing processes such as the LSI and PIP processes, as well as practical applications in long-lasting braking systems and gas turbine components. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Schafföner, a renowned expert in this field, imparts in-depth knowledge and offers participants space for interdisciplinary exchange and practice-oriented discussions.

Programme Highlights:

  • Introduction and Material Fundamentals: Participants will receive a thorough introduction to the properties and advantages of ceramic composite materials used in industrial high-temperature applications.
  • Fibre Selection and Matrix Systems: Which fibres are suitable for which application? How do different matrix systems influence the properties of the material? These questions are the focus of the course and will be explained in a practical way.
  • Manufacturing Techniques LSI and PIP: Efficient and cost-effective manufacturing methods, which are essential for industrial use, are covered in detail.
  • Modelling and Machining: In addition to manufacturing, precise modelling and machining is also crucial for optimising material properties and design processes.
  • Innovative Applications: From high-performance brakes to durable carbon/carbon materials, this training course uses real-world examples to show how ceramic composite materials can be developed for specific applications.

Why Participate?
DGM training courses are characterised by their up-to-dateness, practical relevance and networking opportunities. Participants benefit from practical knowledge transfer, the latest trends and insights, as well as valuable networking opportunities with industry experts and colleagues.
