AI MSE 2025 creates an international stage for interdisciplinary discussion and exchange on the latest advances in artificial intelligence and its potential applications in materials science. It focuses on key topics in which artificial intelligence is shaping materials science. One of the main topics is image-based microstructure analysis, which makes it possible to derive complex 3D structures from 2D images and thus optimize material properties in a targeted manner. In addition, the prediction of material properties plays an important role: here, machine learning methods are used to predict properties based on microstructures, thus significantly accelerating the development process. Material discovery is also being revolutionized by AI. Self-learning algorithms identify relevant information and suggest targeted experiments, saving time and resources, especially for complex, costly investigations. Future technologies such as neuro-symbolic methods, physically informed neural networks and natural language processing are opening up further exciting prospects and could transform materials science in the long term.
