Hybrid Materials: Interdisciplinary exchange at the expert committee meeting in Cologne

On 22 November 2024, the DGM expert committee “Hybrid Materials and Structures” met again at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cologne-Porz – the place of its founding in 2012. The focus of the meeting was on interdisciplinary approaches to the further development of hybrid materials and the exchange between leading scientists dedicated to the challenges of sustainable materials research.

A place with history and future
It was here at DLR that Prof. Dr. Joachim Hausmann from the Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials (IVW) had convened the expert committee on 'Hybrid Materials and Structures' in 2012. Now, scientists are coming together again to discuss current challenges and advances in the joining of metals and composite materials. The meeting was hosted by Dr. Jan Haubrich, head of the Sustainable Materials and Processes group at the DLR Institute of Materials Research.

Interdisciplinary focus
The expert committee brings together scientists from different disciplines of materials science to work on common topics and, in particular, to create compounds between metals and composite materials.
We look forward to the next meetings and further interdisciplinary dialog in this forward-looking field of research.

Special thanks go to Dr. Jan Haubrich, who invited the expert committee to DLR and created the framework for a stimulating exchange.
