Successful exchange at the DGM working group on aluminum casting – focus on innovation and sustainability

At its 101st meeting on 12 - 13 November 2024, the DGM working group on aluminum continuous casting met at AMAG casting GmbH in Ranshofen, Austria. In a productive setting, not only were technical presentations and discussions held on all aspects of continuous casting, but AMAG also provided valuable insights into its manufacturing processes and sustainability strategies.

On 12 and 13 November 2024, the members of the DGM working group on aluminum continuous casting came together for their 101st meeting. The host was AMAG casting GmbH in Ranshofen, Austria, which organized a successful meeting with great dedication.

The first day began with a warm welcome and a joint lunch buffet, which provided space for initial discussions and professional exchange. AMAG then presented its corporate structure and the latest developments in aluminum production as part of a company presentation. A detailed tour of the plant, which provided deep insights into AMAG's modern foundries and future-oriented recycling center, was a highlight. Here, the role of innovative technologies and sustainability in aluminum casting became clear once again.

The focus on the second day was on the actual working meeting. The organizers were able to engage three well-known speakers who presented current research and industry developments:

  1. Final results of the “Ejecting” project – a contribution from the University of Magdeburg.
  2. “Plant technology for the decarbonization of foundries” – an informative guest lecture by the Ebner Group
  3. “Sustainable scrap melting processes” – presented by Hertwich Engineering GmbH, a leading company in the field of recycling technology.

The session topics impressively showed that continuous aluminum casting is on the verge of important developments with regard to sustainability, decarbonization and efficient processes

Special thanks go to AMAG casting GmbH for their hospitality and for the perfect organization of the event.

At the end of the meeting, the outlook for the next meeting was already given: The 102nd meeting of the working group will take place on 08 and 09 April 2025 at AGN Speedline in Schlins, Austria.
