Dear Members of the German Society for Materials Science,
It is a great honor and pleasure for us, as your Presidents, to help shape the future of our Society. This not only gives us the opportunity to actively contribute to the further development of our community and our field, but also the chance to experience the diversity, knowledge and passion within our community even more intensively.
Materials science and engineering are at the heart of many global challenges. Whether it is shaping a sustainable future, developing innovative solutions in key technologies or translating groundbreaking research into practice, our field has the potential to make a significant contribution to the positive development of the world.
We attach particular importance to promoting pre-competitive dialogue between research and industry. Only by working closely together can we drive sustainable and forward-looking innovation. Our committees and working groups provide the ideal platform for this. At the same time, we are committed to raising the visibility of our discipline in industry and further strengthening its importance as the basis for many technological developments.
We also want to raise awareness of the importance of materials science and engineering in politics and society. In addition to cutting-edge research, it is essential to maintain strong manufacturing companies in our own country. These companies are not only drivers of innovation, but also make a decisive contribution to economic stability and technological independence. We must work together to ensure that the conditions are in place to make the most of this potential.
A personal concern that unites us both is our enthusiasm for materials science and engineering, which has accompanied us throughout our careers. We want to share this passion with you, but especially with young DGM members. Therefore, during our term of office we will create specific opportunities to engage in dialogue with you. At the same time, we will continue to be available to you in existing formats where we can take up your suggestions, ideas and questions directly, intensify the dialogue and develop new perspectives together.
We look forward to meeting the challenges of our time together with you and actively shaping the future of DGM. Let us work together to further strengthen our discipline as a central pillar of science, industry and society - for a sustainable and innovative future.
Good luck!
