Shaping the next generation: Who will motivate tomorrow's Materials Scientists?

Materials Science and Engineering is facing a challenge: a decline in the number of students is threatening long-term scientific and industrial progress. This development affects not only our field, but also many related engineering disciplines. Instead of standing by and watching, we need to take action together!

How can we get young people inspired about our field?

The first step: visibility. Many pupils and first-year students are hardly aware of the exciting opportunities that Materials Science offers – from sustainable materials to high-tech applications and the energy transition. It is up to us to spark this enthusiasm!

The DGM supports young talents from the very beginning, from their first contact with the subject at school to their career in industry or science. However, this can only be achieved with committed supporters who are actively involved. And anyone can do it – from experienced experts to students in their first semester!

How can you support us?

· Inspire younger people or those new to the field to get involved in Materials Science!

· Raise awareness of the Newcomers and Young Talent Committee's offers!

· Still haven't found the right offer? Become active in the committee yourself!

The next meeting of the Newcomers and Young Researchers Committee will take place on 21 March from 3:00–6:00 p.m. If you would like to find out more without obligation, come to our open meeting on 13 March at 4:00 p.m. for an insight and exchange: this is how the newcomers and young talent committee works!

Let's work together to ensure that the next generation also shapes Materials Science and Engineering with passion!
