BioTrans, the scientific accompanying project of the BMBF funding measure “Biologization of technology: Bioinspired materials research,” cordially invites you to two exclusive workshops taking place during MaterialsWeek 2025 in Frankfurt am Main. Both events will be held at Campus Riedberg – Biozentrum on 03 and 04 April 2025.
On Thursday, 03 April (14:00–18:00), PhD candidates and PostDocs from bioinspired topics or any related interdisciplinary field are encouraged to join the “BdT PhD Seminar: Research Data Management – Building a Sustainable Data Legacy”. This session features expert speakers from the materials science and engineering consortium of the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI-MatWerk) and the BMBF initiative Platform MaterialDigital (PMD), who will share the visions of a digital infrastructure and best practices for managing research data. Topics include ontologies, data management plans, electronic lab notebooks and further aspects to digitalize lab or modelling work based on FAIR principles. Practical insights and interactive formats are planned, ensuring lively discussions and hands-on learning.
On Friday, 04 April (10:00-14:00), interested researchers and engineers as well as general science and technology enthusiasts can learn more at the workshop “BdT Themenkreis: Biologisierung der Technik als kreative Innovationsmethode”. Led by experts Dr. Rainer Erb (BIOKON e.V.) and Markus Hollermann (die Bioniker GbR), this workshop will introduce the basics of bioinspired ways of thinking and working. They will show how biological principles - such as adaptability and resource efficiency - can be used as drivers for innovations in technology. Participants will not only have the opportunity to learn about and discuss proven approaches to the biologization of technology, but will also get creative themselves: working in small groups, they will use specific challenges as examples to work out how they can identify natural models and transform them into adaptive and efficient solutions following functional analysis.
Both workshops aim to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and spur new ideas in the emerging field of bioinspired materials research. Catering will be provided, and attendance is free of charge. Click below and secure your spot today.
