Roll Cladding Working Group Confirms Leadership and Focuses on Proven Topics

The roll cladding working group in the rolling technical committee held its first meeting of the year on 18 February 2025 – this time in an online format. Stephan Reichelt was unanimously confirmed as the head of the working group. In terms of content, the committee is following up on a question regarding the numerical simulation of roll cladding that was discussed before the pandemic.

The working group on roll cladding has continued its work with the first scheduled meeting of 2025. During the online meeting, Stephan Reichelt was unanimously confirmed as head of the working group by the members present.

A central topic of the meeting was the resumption of a question already discussed before the pandemic: the possibilities of numerical simulation of roll cladding, especially with regard to the development of adhesion. After this topic had to be paused due to the well-known restrictions, it is now to be systematically pursued further. In the coming meetings, the working group will initially deal with the current state of research and technology. The university members of the committee will contribute their latest findings in order to develop opportunities for cooperation within the working group based on these.

Another important step this year is the return to face-to-face meetings. The next meeting is planned for mid-June and will be the first in-person meeting in quite some time. It will be hosted by Miba Bearings Materials GmbH, which is making its premises available for the experts to meet in person.

With a consolidated leadership, a clear thematic focus and the return to face-to-face meetings, the working group is providing important impetus for the further development of simulation techniques in roll cladding.
