Successful Materials Analysis Training Course at MECS in Saarbrücken – Traditional and Modern AI Methods

From 11 to 13 March, the training course "Materials Analysis in Transition: Tradition meets AI" took place in Saarbrücken. The event was jointly organized by the German Society for Materials Science (DGM) and the Material Engineering Center Saarland (MECS). It provided both an on-site and online platform for the exchange of information on modern methods of materials analysis.

A thorough, objective and complete analysis of material microstructure is critical for quality control and research and development. The training covered everything from experimental characterization and classical microstructure evaluation to state-of-the-art AI-based evaluation methods. The goal was to introduce the participants to methods for precise and objective identification and quantification of microstructure.

The numerous practical exercises in image analysis and the insight into modern AI-supported methods of material analysis were particularly emphasized. The hybrid delivery of the course was technically flawless for both the classroom and online participants. The event met with great interest and was consistently rated positively by the participants.

A joint dinner on the first day of the seminar was used to make new professional contacts in a relaxed atmosphere and to promote exchange and networking among the participants.

The organizers and speakers are already looking forward to future seminars that will bring together experts from different fields to deepen their understanding of materials analysis and discuss current challenges in materials science.
