New Round of Add-on Fellowships: Funding for Interdisciplinary Research on the “Resources of the Future”

In 2025, the Joachim Herz Foundation will again award up to 80 Add-on Fellowships to young scientists from the fields of engineering, life sciences and economics. The focus will be on "Resources of the Future", with an emphasis on interdisciplinary projects and socially relevant transfer potential. The application deadline is 16 May 2025.

The Joachim Herz Foundation's Add-on Fellowships are entering the next round – with a new thematic focus and a clear goal: to strengthen interdisciplinary research dealing with the sustainable and efficient use of natural, economic and technological resources. Under the motto "Resources of the Future", the funding program is aimed at young scientists whose projects address socially relevant issues and show potential for scientific or economic transfer.

Up to 80 researchers from the fields of business administration, economics, life sciences and materials sciences will be supported. The Add-on Fellowships provide a combination of financial and non-financial support and networking opportunities.

Funding includes:

  • up to 15,000 euros for research-related activities over a period of two years
  • up to 3,000 euros for activities to promote equal opportunities (e.g. childcare, care, accessibility)
  • access to exclusive events on career development, science communication and transfer

Applications are open to advanced doctoral students, postdocs and junior professors without tenure who work at a university or non-profit research institution in Germany or whose research is otherwise funded there. The decisive factor is a convincing research project with an interdisciplinary focus and recognizable transfer potential – even if concrete application strategies are still being developed.

In addition to financial support, fellows benefit from the exchange with other fellows and alumni. Through kick-off and add-on meetings as well as self-organized regional meetings, they can network and gain further qualifications on topics such as transfer strategies, spin-offs or mental health.

Applications can be submitted online until 16 May 2025. For more information on the program, requirements and application process, please visit the Joachim Herz Foundation's website.
