FEMS EUROMAT is among the most important events in the European materials science community. Organized this year by SOCIEMAT, a member of the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS), the congress brings together experts from across Europe every two years – spanning fundamental research to industrial application. As a founding member of FEMS, the German Society for Materials Science (DGM) has been closely connected to the EUROMAT series since the very first event in Aachen in 1989. Most recently, DGM hosted EUROMAT 2023 in Frankfurt am Main – once again highlighting Germany’s strong contribution to European materials research.
As part of EUROMAT 2023 in Frankfurt, the FEMS General Assembly was also held, where Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini (University of Erlangen-Nuremberg) was confirmed as FEMS President for the 2024–2025 term. Prof. Boccaccini is not only internationally recognized for his work in functional biomaterials but is also a long-standing and active member of DGM – including serving on the Scientific Committee for MSE 2026. His election underscores the close relationship between FEMS and DGM and the active role of the German materials science community on the European stage.
Eight Topic Areas – One Interdisciplinary Program
The scientific program of EUROMAT 2025 covers a broad spectrum of materials science. Eight thematic clusters will address current challenges and future perspectives:
- Functional Materials
- Structural Materials
- Processing
- Characterization, Modeling and Data, including Artificial Intelligence
- Energy and Transportation
- Materials for Healthcare
- Education, Dissemination, Strategy and Technology Transfer
- Materials for Circularity and Sustainability
International plenary lectures, topic-specific symposia, poster sessions, and a technical exhibition offer plenty of inspiration and opportunities for exchange – for early-career researchers and seasoned professionals from both academia and industry.
Experience Granada – Encounters in a Historic Setting
EUROMAT 2025 will take place at the modern Granada Conference Centre, centrally located with a view of the Alhambra. In addition to the scientific program, the social program will offer numerous networking opportunities: a welcome reception on the panoramic terrace, guided city tours through the old town, an exclusive dinner at Carmen de los Chapiteles, and a dedicated event for early-career researchers – all creating a memorable setting for international exchange.
