Impulses for Alloys, Simulation, and Error Analysis: Light Metal Working Group Meets in Munich

The Light Metal Working Group of the Extrusion Committee met in Munich on 03 April, 2025, at the invitation of Prosimalys. The focus was on current approaches to the further development of 6000 series alloys, advances in simulation technology, and considerations for the digital renewal of the extrusion defect catalog. The program was supplemented by insights into ongoing research projects and an open discussion on future topics.

Under the chairmanship of Dr. Thomas Herding, head of the Working Group Light Metal, the meeting addressed current issues and ideas from industry and research. After approval of the last minutes, presentations and discussions followed on strategic and technological topics related to 6000 series alloys, the potential of modern FEM-based simulations for processes and quality, and prospects for a digital error catalog using AI.

Research institutions presented their ongoing work on new processes and materials. In the concluding discussion, suggestions for the working group's future work were collected and the date for the next meeting was set.

The working group will meet again on 24 – 25 September , 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in Vogt at the invitation of Step-G. Registration is available on the DGM website.
