With around 15 participants, the group size proved ideal for creating a lively, interactive atmosphere. Lively discussions arose during the lectures and practical sessions, during which many questions were asked and experiences from professional practice were shared. This promoted intensive learning and made the event varied and entertaining. An introduction round at the beginning helped "break the ice" and facilitate direct interaction.
There was also plenty of time for socializing. During dinner at the traditional restaurant "Sitte" in Darmstadt, participants took the opportunity to strengthen existing connections and build new networks in a relaxed atmosphere.
This time, the venue was the high-rise building of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, with a view from the eighth floor. The modern lecture hall equipment, bright seminar room, and impressive view of the Frankfurt skyline provided an ideal setting. Lunch breaks were held at the neighboring campus restaurant, Schöffers, whose pleasant atmosphere complemented the professional exchange.
In the laboratory, the macro sections and damage cases on display received a lot of attention. Discussions about possible causes and scenarios demonstrated how knowledge from the training course can be applied to practical experience. The metallographic exercises also yielded exciting insights. Comparing simplified microstructure sketches from the lectures with complex structures under the light microscope produced many "aha moments."
Remarkably, not only the participants, but also the speakers benefited from the group's wealth of experience. This practical exchange contributed significantly to the event's success.
The positive feedback made it clear that the "Introduction to Metallurgy" training course was a success once again thanks to its combination of theoretical knowledge, practical exercises, and discussions.
Further Information:
This training course is designed for engineers and technicians looking to refresh or expand their metallurgy knowledge. The course offers a practical mix of lectures and exercises that cover key topics such as microstructures, alloys, heat treatment, and damage cases. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate supporting their professional development.
The "Introduction to Metallurgy" training course will be offered again in 2026. It will take place in Darmstadt from 10 to 13 March and from 15 to 18 September. Further details can be found on the DGM Academy website.
