BV MatWerk: Survey on Materials Science and Engineering Degree Programs

The German Federal Association for Materials Science and Materials Engineering (BV MatWerk) is currently conducting a nationwide survey among students of materials science and materials engineering. The aim of the survey is to find out which factors positively influence the choice of a MatWerk degree program, e.g., school offerings, teachers, marketing measures by universities/colleges, student laboratories, or other factors.

With the results, BV MatWerk would like to:

  • Better understand what paths lead young people to our field
  • Identify and highlight successful measures for addressing school students, thereby
  • developing concrete recommendations for study orientation and promoting young talent in order to
  • strengthen the long-term appeal of materials science, chemistry, and related engineering sciences in Germany

Participation offers the following advantages for universities:

  • Insight into the motivations of students to study at your university (valuable for teaching and counseling services)
  • Benchmarking: Your university benefits from Germany-wide comparative data
  • Participation in a sporting competition between universities: the university with the most high-quality participants by the end of 2025 wins EUR 500 to use as it sees fit, e.g., for a Christmas party (sponsored by BV MatWerk and the Study Day Materials Science and Materials Engineering (StMW)
