Anyone who wants to create new materials with new properties cannot avoid analyzing their micro- or macroscopic structures any more than they can avoid testing their suitability or understanding their production. Not just in the steel industry do new materials often require new casting, rolling and processing methods, which can influence innovations in industrial downstream processing - and which also often make manufacturing products more efficient, cost-effective and environmentally compatible. Numerous DGM expert committees also deal with these processes. They summarize expertise and bring together representatives from basic research and industrial application, in order to coordinate innovation needs and to elicit research fields that are indispensable for the future.
