The 7th International Conference on Hybrid Materials and Structures 2027 will take place in Bremen and is organized in collaboration with leading research institutions and industry partners.
Innovative materials continue to play a decisive role in enabling new technologies and products. At the same time, increasingly demanding performance requirements mean that high-performance components and structures can rarely be realized using a single material alone. This applies equally to vehicles, mechanical engineering, aerospace, and construction. In order to fully exploit material-specific properties, particularly in lightweight and functionally optimized designs, the combination of different material classes has become essential. When such combinations are realized through inseparable connections, they are referred to as multi-material designs or hybrid structures, with the term “hybrid” originating from Greek and meaning “mixed”.
The combination of different materials introduces specific challenges for manufacturing and joining technologies, design methodologies, process control, and long-term performance. Addressing these challenges requires an interdisciplinary approach that considers hybrid materials and structures across their entire life cycle.
The 7th International Conference on Hybrid Materials and Structures 2027 covers a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from material concepts and characterization to design, manufacturing, application, and life cycle aspects. The conference provides a solid basis for in-depth discussion of application-specific material and structural behavior, with a clear focus on material combinations that integrate different material classes and fulfill structural functions.
Hybrid 2027 brings together participants from both industry and academia and highlights the close interaction between fundamental research, technological development, and industrial application. The conference actively encourages the participation of early-career researchers, engineers, and students, supporting knowledge exchange across generations.
The conference will take place in the Hanseatic city of Bremen, a location with a strong tradition in industrial manufacturing and materials research. With its long-standing involvement in aerospace, automotive engineering, shipbuilding, and advanced production technologies, Bremen offers an inspiring environment for discussing the future of hybrid materials and structures.
We look forward to welcoming the international hybrid materials community to Bremen in 2027.
