The German Hygiene Museum is more than a museum in the traditional sense. Founded in 1912, it is today a forum for discussing the cultural, social, and scientific transformations of contemporary society. With its diverse exhibition program, it attracts visitors from around the world, while its extensive event portfolio makes it a well-established meeting place for Dresden’s academic and civic communities.

The permanent exhibition, titled “The Adventure of Being Human,” presents fundamental questions of human existence through classical exhibits, multimedia installations, and interactive stations arranged along a carefully designed parcours. This core exhibition is complemented by the experience-oriented children’s museum “World of the Senses,” which expands the educational dimension of the institution.

The permanent collection includes numerous objects from the museum’s extensive holdings, such as the famous “Transparent Human,” valuable wax moulages, anatomical models and specimens, international AIDS poster art, and body- and culture-historical artifacts from the museum’s specialized collections.

Education and knowledge transfer have traditionally been central pillars of the museum’s mission. For school classes and other visitor groups, the museum offers a differentiated and inclusive program of guided tours, educational formats, and public events.

Beyond regular opening hours, the museum continues to function as a vibrant cultural venue.
