Getting to Erlangen

Erlangen lies in the heart of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region in northern Bavaria. Frequent regional and S-Bahn trains reach Nuremberg main station in about 20 minutes; the A3 and A73 autobahns pass the city; and Nuremberg Airport is roughly 25 minutes door-to-door.

Erlangen Hauptbahnhof — on the Nuremberg–Bamberg line

Erlangen Hauptbahnhof sits on the main line between Nuremberg and Bamberg, with direct IC/ICE stops and frequent regional and S-Bahn (S1) service. From Nuremberg Hauptbahnhof — a hub on the ICE corridors to Munich, Frankfurt and Berlin — trains reach Erlangen in about 20 minutes. The Friedrich-Alexander-Universität campus is a short bus ride or roughly 15-minute walk from the station.

Nuremberg Airport, 25 minutes away

For international arrivals, Nuremberg Airport (NUE) is the closest gateway — about 25 minutes from Erlangen by taxi, or via the U-Bahn (U2) and a regional train. Munich Airport (MUC) offers wider intercontinental connections and is around 1.5 hours away by train or car.
