The 6th International Conference Hybrid Materials and Structures will be held in 2025 in Noordwijk, co-organized by the Delft University of Technology. The region has a long history in material technology evolving from the ceramics industry which established in the 17th century to a technology hub today. Experimentation and innovation always went hand in hand and regional artists and scientists have been leaders in their fields and contributed to the development of the Netherlands.
Innovative materials are very often the trailblazer for the introduction of new technologies or products. The other way around, multifaceted and demanding requirements of components yield to more and more different material combinations. The combination of different materials leads to new challenges for joining and processing, design principles and many more aspects. Therefore, the topic of hybrid materials and structures needs to be addressed interdisciplinary, while considering the entire lifecycle.
The 6th International Conference Hybrid Materials and Structures treats the broad spectrum of topics from base materials to design and from manufacturing to applications. Hence, the base for a serious discussion on the behavior of material and components under application specific conditions will be provided. The only limitation is the focus on material combinations that bring together different material classes and perform structural tasks in some way.
A birthplace of hybrid materials
The event will be hosted by Delft University of Techology in the Netherlands, at the Space Expo Noordwijk. Delft University of Techology, initially founded as royal academy in 1842, developed over the past 160 years from polytechnical school towards academic university of technology. Delft University of Techology has gained a significant reputation for developing a distinct hybrid material concept: Fibre Metal Laminates. This material technology brought hybrids into application in a major field of use, the primary structures in the aerospace industry.
A conference in outer space - The conference location “Space Expo” in Noordwijk
No other place in the Netherlands has as much knowledge about space as Noordwijk. Since 1968, the European Space Research and Technology Center (ESTEC), the technical heart of the European Space Agency (ESA), has been located here. Hybrid 2025 takes place in the Space Expo Museum, directly at ESTEC. Discover the world of space travel in all its facets! From designing and building space missions on earth to launching them into space. Touch a real meteorite, walk through a model of the International Space Station (ISS) and take a look inside André Kuipers' original Sojoez-capsule.
Special Session: „Thermoset-Thermoplastic Hybrid Composites“
In multi-material design, hybrid composites joined by downstream processes such as bonding or welding are already established, but often do not fully exploit the lightweight potential. An intrinsic hybrid composite, however, is an integral component in which the various materials are joined in a one-step process. For fiber-reinforced plastics, the hybridization based on different fiber architecture is quite common, but bringing together different matrices is quite unsual. Nevertheless, thermoset-thermoplastic hybrid composites offer new opportunities in application and joining concepts making it worth to have a closer look at it in a special session dedicated to this novel class of hybrids at Hybrid2025 conference.
The conference provides a fruitful mixture of presentations, discussions and exhibition. An interdisciplinary exchange of industry and academia supports individual networking.
