New materials and coatings are needed, that can meet changed tribological conditions and provide at the same time super-low friction and wear. Rapid changes in industrial applications leave no room for trial-and-error solutions and require a deep understanding of the underlying microscopic mechanisms in the tribological contact.

The 2024 Friction, Wear and Wear protection symposium focuses on the latest developments in materials and coatings development for ultra-low friction and wear, as well as friction materials, polymers, and PMC’s. Since 2008 the symposium has been held every three years under the auspices of the expert committee Behavior of Materials under Mechanical Stress  of the German Society for Materials Science, DGM.
