Welcome & Conference Scope

A welcome note on the themes and scientific focus of LightMAT 2027: light metals, their alloys, multi-material designs, processing routes and sustainable materials engineering.

Details

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the 7th International Conference on Light Materials – Science and Technology (LightMAT 2027).

We are looking forward to working with you over three days to get a comprehensive overview and new insights into the three most essential light metals, Aluminum, Magnesium, and Titanium, and their alloys. The materials are viewed individually or in multi-material designs, including processing, joining, and corrosion protection.

Special Topic: Green Manufacturing and Sustainable Materials At LightMAT 2027, the key focus of the special topic will be on materials and processes for Green Manufacturing. In light of global sustainability goals, we invite participants to explore a central question: Which innovative research approaches from materials science can be reconciled with industry requirements in order to accelerate the implementation of closed material cycles, improve sustainability, and drive forward the dematerialization of our economy—thereby reducing dependence on primary raw materials? This thematic focus aims to promote dialogue on how advanced materials and process innovations can contribute to a more resource-efficient and resilient manufacturing future.

LightMAT 2027 provides a platform for researchers, scientists, and engineers from academia and industry to present and discuss the latest developments and advances in the fields of aluminum, magnesium, titanium, and their alloys and material combinations. Beyond the standard processes and primary applications of metals, comparisons and cross-fertilization should be facilitated to provide a comprehensive overview of individual advances, challenges, and highlights, including:

  • Fundamental aspects of the three metallic lightweight materials and their alloys, their metallurgy and processing issues involved
  • Conventional and advanced lightweight applications as well as innovative products for automotive, aerospace, and other transport applications
  • Microstructure evolution, associated material properties, and the use of advanced simulation techniques
  • Industrial fabrication, processing, joining technologies, and corrosion protection
  • Additive manufacturing of metallic structures as a driver for novel, high-performance lightweight designs
  • Formability and advanced forming technologies for light alloys to shape complex components
