Tuesday, 15 September
Time: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Location: Foyer
This evening event, organized by the Women@DGM network, will bring together female participants of ICAA 20 for an open exchange on gender equality, career paths, and professional experiences in the field of aluminium and aluminium alloys. In an informal setting, participants will have the opportunity to connect, share perspectives, and discuss challenges and opportunities in science and industry. The format is designed to encourage personal conversation, networking, and mutual support in a welcoming atmosphere.
As part of the evening, one discussion will focus on a topic many women in academia (and beyond) encounter in their daily work:
Agenda highlight: Saying no and setting boundaries
Women in academia are highly committed, often more so than this commitment is visibly recognized or rewarded. Are women asked too often to take on additional tasks? Why is it so difficult to decline requests? And how can boundaries be set without being perceived as uncollegial?
This networking event provides space for open exchange, personal experiences, and collective reflection. The aim is to identify patterns, share perspectives, and discuss strategies for confidently navigating expectations in everyday academic life.
Participation is free of charge. Participation is reserved for registered female conference participants. For planning purposes, female conference participants are kindly requested to register.

During the International Materials Science and Engineering Congress 2026 (MSE 2026), taking place from 29 September to 01 October 2026 as a hybrid congress in Darmstadt (Germany) and online, Women@DGM will also host the MSE Women’s Lunch titled “From Lab to LinkedIn: Visible Science Needs Visible Women”. The format focuses on questions of visibility and communication in science.
At first glance, these two formats may appear to address different aspects. However, both events share several common pillars, including navigating expectations, strengthening professional positioning, and making informed decisions about visibility and engagement in academic and industrial contexts.
Participants of both formats are invited to continue the exchange in a joint Women@DGM Christmas Lunch Talk, where perspectives from ICAA and MSE will be brought together. The event is planned for the Christmas period. The exact date will be announced.
