The plenary lectures at RSMSE 2026 provide a concise, high-level entry point into current advances in residual-stress research and engineering. Experts highlight how residual stresses evolve, how they can be quantified with modern experimental and numerical approaches, and how they can be managed to improve component performance, reliability, and lifetime across materials and manufacturing routes. 

Delivered in a hybrid setting in Kassel and online from 23 to 25 June 2026, the plenary talks frame the symposium’s core themes and set the stage for focused technical discussions throughout the program.
