The Working Group Copper Materials organizes the members of companies and research institutes from German-speaking countries who are involved in the continuous casting of copper and its alloys as well as closely related processes.

The continuous casting processes of the important industrial metals have become increasingly differentiated since their development in the first half of the 20th century. However, the processes for continuous casting of copper and its alloys in particular still have some common features. The processing temperatures of copper and its alloys are midway between higher-melting steel and lower-melting aluminum.
Compared to continuous casting of steel and aluminum, the quantities produced are usually significantly lower for copper materials. The value of copper as a material usually exceeds the process costs for continuous casting many times over. The combination of these factors and the special features of the individual alloys results in the various processes which, with their differences and similarities, make up the subject area of this Working Group.
The main focus of the work is on promoting the technological and scientific as well as the production-related further development of these processes, with particular emphasis on improving occupational safety.
