Whether it's novel metallic structures, hybrid materials, fiber-ceramic composite materials, polymers, or high-temperature-resistant materials – new materials and lightweight construction with entirely new properties and functions ensure the prosperity of society and contribute to the expansion and security of the German economy. Materials science and engineering enable new electric cars and innovative aircraft concepts, as well as advancements in mechanical engineering, new prosthetics and medical devices, and functional sportswear with electronics. This knowledge of materials is collected, conveyed, and disseminated in the specialized and community committees of the DGM – from A like "Aluminum" to Z like "Cellular Materials."
