In the Expert Committee, extrusion plants and supplier companies meet universities and research institutes. Industrial members represent production, quality assurance, product and process development, and mechanical, plant and tool engineering.
Some of the universities and research institutes can conduct research on their own extrusion lines. This brings practical industrial experience together with scientific questions relating to extrusion and new applications.

In extrusion, metals such as aluminium or copper and their alloys are pressed through a shaping die. This produces rods, wires, tubes and profiles. Extruded profiles are used in the automotive sector. In electrical and mechanical engineering, they are used, for example, as finned heat sinks or support profiles; in medical technology, they are also used in applications involving bioresorbable materials.
The interaction of materials development and tooling technology is decisive for implementing new applications. A further technical focus is the more accurate simulation of the extrusion process and the properties of the resulting products. Progress in describing actual friction conditions in the forming zone expands the possibilities for product development.
