Working Group

Thermal process technology

Committee members: 12

In addition to forming and finishing lines, term processing lines are an essential part of the equipment inventory in the manufacturing industry related to the "rolling" of metal strips.

  • Exchange of experience and networking between industrial operators, plant manufacturers (term processing plants/furnace builders), and the scientific community.
  • Addressing industrial and scientific issues in the field of new processes, materials, and design principles.
  • Development of technical recommendations for action and planning documents (e.g. acceptance recommendations, checklists for energy saving).

Forming and finishing lines are capital goods that must be specially designed to meet the requirements and conditions of the customer and the product. This requires operating values as well as knowledge and new developments in the fields of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and momentum, heat and mass transfer.
Since term processing plants in Germany consume about 40 % of the energy used in industry, the requirements for energy efficiency have increased permanently over the years. The Working Group comprises plant manufacturers, representatives of universities, and plant operators from the field of term processing plants.
