Sample preparation includes mechanical cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing, chemical or ion‑based etching and specialized preparations for electron/x‑ray microscopy. The goal is artifact‑free surfaces and defined thicknesses for reliable microstructural and chemical analyses and reproducible measurement conditions.
