Drawing is a forming process in which metallic or polymeric semifinished products are pulled through a die and plastically deformed under predominantly tensile stress. In materials science, drawing is used to tailor microstructure, texture, dislocation density and residual stresses. This enables precise adjustment of strength, ductility, conductivity and surface quality of wires, fibers and tubes, often combined with intermediate annealing to restore formability and control property gradients.
