Dear colleagues and friends,
As the first snowflakes bring us closer to the end of 2023, we would like to reflect on the 1st Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Materials Science and Engineering (AI MSE 2023) that took place in Saarbrücken.
AI MSE 2023 presented an incredible mosaic of ideas, where the worlds of AI and materials science came together to create something greater than the sum of their parts. We delved into the nuances of microstructure characterization and understood how AI can reveal hidden patterns in materials. The predictive power of AI in determining properties and microstructures has opened new horizons in materials discovery, a testament to the continued evolution of our field.
A highlight was the introduction of neuro-symbolic machine learning and natural language processing. These emerging technologies are not just buzzwords; they herald a new era in our understanding and manipulation of materials.
As we look back on AI MSE 2023, we are also setting our sights on MSE 2024, which will take place in Darmstadt in September. This event promises to be a leading gathering of materials scientists and engineers not only in Germany, but across Europe. With Sweden as the host country, we anticipate a fusion of ideas that will further enrich our experience.
MSE Congress 2024 promises to be an exceptional event. From plenary lectures designed to broaden our horizons, to a comprehensive scientific presentation program, to interactive poster sessions showcasing our colleagues' research, there is something for everyone. And let's not forget the legendary MSE party – an event that is as much a tradition of MSE as the exchange of knowledge.
To our MSE community: This is your stage. We encourage you to submit your abstracts and play an active role in shaping the future of materials science and engineering. Share your innovations, your ideas and your passion.
Before I close, a gentle reminder to visit our website to view the AI MSE 2023 photo gallery. Let these memories rekindle your enthusiasm as we approach MSE 2024. We look forward to meeting you, working together and celebrating our collective achievements and aspirations.
Together, we will continue to shape the future of materials science, driven by our thirst for knowledge and supported by the limitless potential of AI.
We wish you a wonderful Advent season!
p.s.: Don't forget to take a look at the yDGM Advent calendar, starting on 1 December.
Warm regards,
Dr. Stefan Klein and the DGM-Office
