The Materials Science and Engineering topic network discusses aspects of research, education, and public perception in this field. For example, various gaps in a chain can be identified between materials development and implementation in products. What are the deficits in this area? Which ways to overcome them can be identified?
In summer 2009, the topic network merged with the "Impulskreis Werkstoffinnovation", which was introduced in 2005 by E. Schulz (former Chairman of the Executive Board, ThyssenKrupp AG) as part of Chancellor G. Schröder's "Partners for Innovation" initiative. The merger of the topic network and the Impulse Circle now pools forces to launch new projects in this field and offers politics a point of contact that is as independent as it is competent.
