For the 24th time, the conference of all materials engineering and materials science courses, KaWuM for short, met this semester at the TU Dresden from November 3 to November 6, 2022.
Numerous workshops invite discussion at the annual event in order to find solutions together: What energy-saving measures can be implemented at universities, supported by students? Another workshop reported on the accreditation system at German universities and motivated students to receive training in order to actively participate in accreditation procedures. The topic of digitization also repeatedly formed a significant focus in the discussion rounds. What possibilities are there for making the work in the student councils more digital and efficient? Or how can content in studies be modernized? One approach to this, for example, is to offer additional lectures on the subject of simulation or the digital evaluation of experiments. Ideas like these are also carried by representatives of KaWuM into the study day MatWerk in order to draw attention to them among the professors as well.
In addition to the technical workshops, KaWuM always offers a varied social program. Due to great popularity, a MatWerk-Slam was offered for the second time this semester. The science slam on MatWerk-specific topics gives students and young scientists a stage to present their research topics to the KaWuM audience in an entertaining way. Laughter is welcome! Two further highlights were a professional excursion to the Fraunhofer IKTS and a guided tour through the beautiful old town of Dresden by the organizing student council.
The date for the 25th KaWuM has already been set: from May 04 to 07, 2023, it will go to Aachen to discuss current topics from university politics. The event is organized by the student council of RWTH Aachen University, which is looking forward to the participation of many new and familiar faces.
