Launch of the BioTrans accompanying project

The consortium and the project agency of BioTrans (knowledge and technology transfer of bioinspired solutions in industry and society) met on 15 February 2024 for the kick-off of the accompanying project in Cologne, Germany.

Kick-off meeting of the BioTrans consortium on 15.02.2024 in Cologne.

Within the funding programme "Biologization of Technology: Bioinspired Materials Research", the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is supporting a total of 12 pre-competitive collaborative R&D projects, which BioTrans will accompany. The project agency is VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH. The funding measure will focus in particular on the areas of "superhydrophobic surfaces and hierarchical structuring" and "self-regulating materials/Self-X materials". The aim is to transfer principles found in nature to materials and their properties in order to further develop technologies and create innovations through bioinspiration. The areas that could benefit from this include mechanical and plant engineering, medical and process engineering and the construction industry.

The joint scientific project "BioTrans" is investigating how bioinspired solutions can advance research and industrial infrastructure in Germany. The project is also funded by the BMBF and officially started on 01.12.2023. The aim is to identify and multiply the innovation and sustainability potential of the bioinspired technology. The Bionics Competence Network e.V. (BIOKON), the German Society for Materials Science e.V. (DGM) and the German Society for Electroplating and Surface Technology e.V. (DGO) are collaborating as a consortium of the accompanying project for a period of four years. In addition to active networking of the R&D projects, BioTrans supports innovation processes and helps to prepare the research results for sustainable utilization.

Information on the funding measure, the R&D projects as well as events and news will be available on the website (www.biologisierung-der-technik.de).
