Current developments in material research and additive manufacturing of intermetallic materials

The meeting of the Expert Committee Intermetallic Phases brought together experts at the Institute of Materials and Joining Technology at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. From material development to additive manufacturing, the meeting offered diverse insights and discussions.

This year, the Expert Committee Intermetallic Phases meeting took place on 13 February 2024, at the Institute of Materials and Joining Technology at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, upon the invitation of Prof. Manja Krüger. However, the majority of participants gathered the evening before for a pre-meeting at Restaurant Basta, enjoying wine, non-alcoholic beverages, and pizza.

For the first time, the meeting was held as a hybrid event, allowing remote participants to join via Zoom conference. This concept proved successful, as many contributions and discussions emerged from the Zoom conference, ensuring all presentations were accounted for, which might have been missed without the virtual option.

Presentation topics ranged from material development experiments to computer-based methods. With a significant number of submissions, particular emphasis was placed on additive manufacturing of intermetallic materials.

During the lunch break, halfway through the presentations, attendees dined at the Otto von Guericke University cafeteria. Following the meeting, participants had the opportunity to tour the Institute of Materials and Joining Technology, an opportunity used by many.
