Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Haase takes over as Head of "Materials for Additive Manufacturing" at TU Berlin

Technische Universität Berlin appoints Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Haase as head of the new "Materials for Additive Manufacturing" department at the Institute of Material Science and Technology.

At the beginning of February 2024, Technische Universität Berlin made a significant addition to its Faculty of Process Sciences: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Haase, an outstanding scientist in the field of materials science and engineering, has taken over the newly established department of "Material for Additive Manufacturing". Haase, whose academic career and research activities have taken him to the forefront of his field, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role.

After studying mechanical engineering at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and completing his doctorate in metallurgy and metal physics at RWTH Aachen University, Prof. Haase further expanded his scientific expertise through research visits and leading research groups. His commitment and contributions to research were recognized last year at “DGM-Tag 2023”, when the German Society for Materials Science (DGM) awarded him the Masing Memorial Prize for his outstanding scientific research work. This award emphasizes Prof. Dr.-Ing. Haase's leading role in the development of innovative materials technologies and methods.

At TU Berlin, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Haase will drive forward a central research and teaching area dedicated to the challenges and opportunities of additive manufacturing. His area of expertise focuses on the microstructure design of modern metallic and metal matrix high-performance materials, multi-scale material simulation, high-throughput material development and the combination of experiment, simulation and machine learning for material description and development.

The appointment of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Haase is a clear signal of TU Berlin's ambition to push the boundaries of materials science and develop innovative solutions for industry and beyond. His expertise and leadership will enrich not only the Materials for Additive Manufacturing department, but also the entire faculty.

We would like to congratulate Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Haase on his new position and wish him every success in his important work at the Technical University of Berlin.
