DGM Mentoring Program

Youth outreach is not just about organizing and supporting students at local universities and colleges.

Particularly in the decision-making phase, when it comes to the transition between graduating and starting a career, young people need guidance on the options available to them. In doing so, a decision must be based on whether the respective person, their wishes and abilities match the intended career choice.

This year, for the first time, the mentoring programme is also being offered to apprentices in the materials and construction sector who are interested in subsequent studies and are looking for information and guidance on the options.

In 2025, the DGM Young Talent Committee is once again offering a mentoring programme for students and apprentices to benefit from the experience and insights of experienced DGM members.

At the beginning of the programme, one-to-one mentoring tandems are put together using a centralised matching process. Mentors and mentees get to know each other intensively for the first time at a kick-off event. The further dates are organised individually by the tandems. The mentoring is accompanied by a joint programme in which offers of further training and excursions are made.
The aim of the mentoring programme, which runs for one year, is to offer regular, extensive opportunities for exchange with professionally experienced DGM members who have decided on either an academic or industrial career and want to pass on their experiences. The aim is to provide the mentees with practical perspectives from research and industry that will enable them to make decisions that are right for them and to define themselves in their role for the next few years. But mentors also often benefit from the fresh perspectives of young people in the orientation phase and can thus also reflect on their own positioning in professional life.
