Innovations in Manufacturing Technologies: Towards a Circular Economy and a Resilient Future

From 24 to 28 June 2024, the 2nd Madeira Digital Transformation Summit took place, showcasing the latest advancements in manufacturing technologies. One of the highlights was a presentation by Steve Bageritz from Steinbeis Europazentrum, titled “The CLASCO Project”, given in the workshop frame "Innovations in Manufacturing Technologies: Towards a Circular Economy and a Resilient Future".

This engaging session provided insights from five pioneering projects: AIDEAS, s-X-AIPI, Circular TwAIN, CLASCO and TRANSIENCE. These projects are at the forefront of the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, each contributing unique advances in AI and technology.

The workshop facilitated insightful discussions on the journey towards digitalisation, focusing on how these technologies are driving circularity and resilience in the manufacturing sector. The topics covered spanned different stages of the value chain, including design, production, use and logistics.

By sharing their progress and experiences, these projects illustrated the significant impact of digital transformation on the industry. The event concluded with an open discussion on challenges and future prospects, highlighting the collaborative efforts needed to drive sustainable innovation.

About the Digital Transformation Summit

The Digital Transformation Summit, part of the Madeira Digital Transformation Week, is in line with the European Commission's Digital Compass for 2030. The summit aims to discuss and drive forward the EU's digital strategy, bringing together key figures from the European Commission, government, academia and industry.

Topics discussed included health, manufacturing, maritime, smart cities and energy, as well as European data spaces and digital services. The event also addressed horizontal challenges such as AI, big data and cybersecurity, as well as societal issues such as digital literacy, skills and social inclusion.

By fostering high-level discussions and networking, the Summit aims to digitally empower citizens and businesses, drive innovation and competitiveness, and achieve climate neutrality.
